# Why shouldn’t I give all Portainer users admin access?

Giving every user admin access in Portainer is risky because admins can modify or delete anything, including stacks, registries and production workloads. Instead, use [role-based access](/sts/admin/user/roles.md) and assign only the access each person needs.

Restricting admin rights prevents accidental changes, limits the impact of mistakes, maintains separation of duties, and improves auditability. Admin access should be reserved for those who manage Portainer itself or handle cluster level configuration. Most users can deploy and manage their own apps without needing admin privileges. Treat admin access as highly privileged and review permissions regularly.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.portainer.io/sts/faqs/getting-started/why-shouldnt-i-give-all-portainer-users-admin-access.md?ask=<question>
```

The question should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
